Gena Philibert-Ortega.
Tracing Ancestry Through Artifacts: Uncovering Family History with Material Culture
Family history isn’t just found in records, it’s woven into the objects our ancestors left behind. This workshop explores how material culture, from heirlooms and photographs to textiles and tools, can provide valuable insights into family heritage. Learn what material culture is, where it is found, and how to analyze and interpret artifacts to enrich your genealogical research. This workshop will help you discover new ways to connect with the past through the tangible pieces of history found in and outside your home. Attendees are welcome to bring one family artifact to share.
Where: Truly Nolen Leadership Center
432 S. Williams Blvd.
Date and Time: Saturday, May 17 from 9-11am
Attendance: In-person only for the workshop
Cost: $20 members or $30 non-members
Gena is also the guest speaker for our regular meeting from 1-3pm. After the workshop, we invite you to bring in your lunch or snack and join us for a group genealogy discussion from 11:30 - 12:30 (prior to the general meeting). Topic TBD.
